TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research) is an independent research organization that operates across defence, security, health, sustainability and digital sectors. Within defence and security, TNO conducts research on integrated combat capability, integrated air and missile defence, maritime defence and security systems including active sonar and signature management, battlefield survival including ballistic protection and CBRN defence, and command and control systems. The organization also works on cyber security, autonomous systems including robotics, space applications including satellite communications and precise geolocation, and counter-terrorism capabilities.
Beyond defence, TNO maintains substantial programmes in sustainable energy, healthcare innovation, digital infrastructure including 5G/6G, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, and smart manufacturing. The organization operates research facilities across the Netherlands and collaborates with government, industry and academic partners.
